Challah Bread French Toast

Challah out! This version of french toast will knock your socks off. Drizzle with maple syrup of fruit preserves to sweeten the plate. You'll never stress out with what to make for breakfast again.

Challah Bread French Toast

  • 3/4 cup(s) egg substitute, liquid or frozen, fat free
  • 3/4 cup(s) low fat milk
  • 2 tablespoon(s) maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon(s) ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon(s) salt
  • 1 tablespoon(s) unsalted butter for pan
  • 8 Challah bread slices, day old, 0.75- inch thick

Directions

    1. In a medium sized bowl, whisk together egg substitute, low-fat milk, maple syrup, and salt. Pour batter into a baking dish.
    2. In a large frying pan over medium-high heat, melt half the butter until it foams but not browns. 
    3. Dip 4 of the bread slices into the batter and let stand for 5 seconds. turn bread slice and allow for that side to sit in the batter for another 5 seconds. 
    4. Using a pair of tongs, remove bread slices from the batter dish allowing the excess batter to drip back into the dish. Place bread slices into the heated fry pan.
    5. Cook until each bread slice is browned about 2.5 to 3 minutes. turn bread slice and cook on the second side for another 2 minutes.
    6. Remove from pan into a clean warmed dish and repeat the process for remaining bread slices with batter and  butter.
    7. Serve warm with topping of your liking.
    8. You can sprinkle with powdered sugar once cooked and on the plate.
